Got those under eye blues?

Hi guys!  Sorry for being MIA for a week.  We had a house guest for a week plus the hustle of Thanksgiving, Black Friday etc.  Whew....this is my first day to actually sit down and check email, youtube etc.
(I didn't figure anyone would want to be "featured" on my blog so I used this photo)
Someone on Facebook asked about concealing under eye circles, darkness and puffiness.  I was going to film a short video on it but I thought I could actually get the information collected better for you here.  So here goes!

Let's start with a listing few common issues women have with their under eye area, then I'll explain a few things you can try for each issue.
1. Puffiness
2. Darkness/Bluish cast
3. Fine lines
4. Make up creasing
5. Eye liner/mascara smudging

First off I want to say that your skin type greatly affects the types of products and techniques you use to correct any of these issues, much like your foundation/powder etc.
PUFFINESS-Puffiness is pretty much the only thing you can "treat" the same no matter what skin type you have however.  The only thing I've found that actually worked as far as puffiness goes was applying a cold/cool compress of some sort to the area for at least 10 minutes each eye.  You can use a small ice pack, frozen spoon covered by a light cloth or any other cold item.  Just be sure you aren't leaving it on too long...frozen bags under your eyes would be far less attractive than the ones you start with.  ;0)  However, if the puffiness is not due to lack of sleep etc and is just naturally there all the time there's not really much you can do.  You do, however, want to be VERY careful with any concealers, powders, products in general you place under your eye as to not accentuate the puffiness.  Remember the rule: Light color highlights or brings forth a feature and dark color conceals or recedes a feature.  This is not to say you should apply black under your eyes to recede the puffiness, that may cause you to resemble Captain Jack Sparrow.  Ahem...unless that's the look you're going for.  You do want to be very careful not to put something too light under your eyes is what I'm getting at.  That will only enhance the puffiness.
DARKNESS/BLUISH CAST-There are many awesome products out there that will help with this concern.  I struggle with a blue cast in the inner corners of my eye, near the bridge of my nose.  You want to use something with a salmon and/or peach tint to it which will counteract the blue/dark colors.  When choosing a concealer for under your eyes (or anywhere else for that matter) be sure it matches your skin tone exactly, is creamy and not thick.  Here is a short list of salmon/peach concealers that work wonders!
Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer/treatment-http://www.evepearl.com/products/concealers-salmon/Dua_Salmon_Concealer_and_Treatment_Light_Medium.htm
*in my opinion Eve Pearl has the market on this type of product.  It's not only an amazing concealer but actually treats the skin to improve it as it conceals.  You can also just buy one color or the dual product so you can insure you have the right color.  (you can mix the two to custom blend your color)  They also come in a wide range of colors, are very creamy, non-drying and do not cause oiliness.
BONUS TIPS:http://www.evepearl.com/index.php?section=articles_zoom&TAG=ARTICLE17
Graftobian  HD Creme Corrector - Soft Orange (Blue Neutralizer)https://www.graftobianmakeup.com/commerce/product.jsp?prodId=1893&catId=
*this is also a good corrector. It's creamy (you don't want a thick, cakey concealer for under your eyes), non-drying, doesn't cause oiliness and has great coverage.  The only "down" side to this one is it only comes in light/medium or medium/dark so it may be a little more difficult to find your proper shade.
Bobbi Brown tinted eye brightener, creamy concealer and brightening spot treatment corrector-This is quite a pricey product, however it works miracles.  There is a short video on how to use her products here:http://www.bobbibrowncosmetics.com/learn/video.tmpl?cm_sp=NOV2010-_-Home-Menu-_-CorrectorVideo_FTout#
Benefit's Erase Paste-http://www.benefitcosmetics.com/Benefit-erase-paste/dp/B0011UNTJ2
*This is also a great product but it takes a little more "working with it" to get the proper coverage.  It also only comes in three shades- fair, medium and deep.  You may have to purchase two and mix them to get the right shade.
I know there are many more out there but these are the ones I would recommend trying first as they are the "top" in this area.
FINE LINES-The main key to reducing the appearance of fine lines is to be very careful not to accentuate them first of all.  Products that havM a thick consistency will crease in fine lines and powders will settle into them causing them to be more visible.  The way I diminish mine (as well as the darkness at the same time) is as follows:
1. Hydrate!  I can't stress that enough.  Even if you are A. young B. oily skinned by nature you still need to hydrate under your eyes.  It's the only place on your face that doesn't have it's own means to do so.   Think of it this way-have you ever seen a dessert that wasn't cracked and full of deep ruts?  You don't want that under your eyes!  Use whatever moisturizer you are comfortable with and suits your skin type.  Do this at least 20 minutes before you apply anything else to give it time to soak into the skin.  This goes for your whole face.
2. Prime those lines girls!  And by that I mean use a primer.  This will help fill in the fine lines so when you apply foundation/concealer/powder over them those products won't sink in and accentuate the lines.  I've been using Loreal Studio Secrets face primer for about 2 weeks now and loving it but there is a hole myriad of face primers available.  To name a few: Smashbox Photo Finish, Mac Mattifying Gel (for the oilier skins like Moi), Benefit's PoreFessional (fills in large pores etc), Bare Minerals Prime Time (spray), Eve Pearl's moisturizing primer and many many more.  Be sure to pat the primer under your eyes, all the way up to your lashes and in the inner corners by your nose to create a smooth base for your other products to glide onto.
3. Before my foundation is applied I begin by correcting the blue cast by applying a THIN layer of my Graftobian soft orange corrector with my ring finger and patting it gently to blend it.  Be sure to blend the edges as well.  The heat from your fingers warms the product causing it to go on thinner and easier.  Remember, we don't want thick and cakey under our eyes.  It only makes the problems worse!  A little goes a long way with this.
4.  I apply my foundation as normal and powder my face in the areas I need powdering.  (T-zone and under eye)  You always want to set your under eye correctors/concealers with a powder or you will find it "missing" half way through the day and/or creased.  BUT, remember that powders can settle into fine lines and accentuate them if too much is applied.  So I use a Mac 224 (very fluffy eyeshadow blending brush) and dip into a super fine, silky powder like Make Up Forever's HD Powder or Mac Setting Powder and apply that under my eyes only and only enough so it doesn't feel "wet" or sticky anymore.  Be sure to look up to the ceiling so the skin under your eyes is as smoothed out as possible before setting your concealer or you will end up setting the lines into your make up.  Not fun.

The above routine also takes care of any creasing I may get under my eyes and stops the smearing of eyeliner/mascara as well.  (for me) If you are still having a problem with your eyeliner/mascara smearing under your eyes it may be that you eye shape is such that you need to stay away from liners on the bottom lash line or mascara on your bottom lashes.  Also, if you are going to line your lower waterline be sure to ALWAYS set it with a powder eyeshadow of the same shade.  That will help it stay in place.

I hope this helps you!  Please let me know if you have any other questions/concerns etc OR if you've tried something not listed here that has worked for you.  I'm sure other readers would be very happy to try them out!  God bless you all.  Love,
Circle/Puff/Line Free Nicole (he he he)

Smashbox and Hard Candy Reviews

Hi Guys,
Thanks a lot for popping over to read my wee little bloggie!!  If you've watched my latest video on YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lpy92ODdtn4 you already know I've been to Ulta and Walmart.  Two very dangerous places for a make up junky such as myself.  ;0)  I normally only go in Ulta once a month and try to only spend about $20 when I go.  Well...this time it didn't happen exactly that way.  Ahem....you see, I am still building my kit for freelance make up artistry and I am in need of so many things I don't really even know where to start.  On top of the fact that I'm not making any money doing this yet so I'm basically just spending............which is fun but not the best thing to be doing at this moment in me life.
And now on to what I got.  I was wandering around aimlessly trying to find some sort of palette that had as many eye shadows in it as possible without it costing me $200.  I had picked up a couple of NYX palettes but I knew that there would be several in them that would be pretty much unusable due to chalkiness etc.  (Not all NYX shadows are that way, in fact it's only a few of them)  And then-my Husband spotted it.  Yes, my Husband was with me.  He didn't seem to mind me walking around with a basket on my arm looking like a dear in the headlights too terribly much anyway.  He said these words "hey, what's this thing?" and that's all it took.  I fell in love with the Smashbox Wish For the Perfect Palette.  49 eyeshadows, 10 cream eyeliners (of which I previously only owned one which is NOT enough by far), 6 brow powder shades, 1 brow wax, 8 lip glosses, 2 blush, 1 bronzer, 1 highlighter and 4 mini brushes.  WOW.  Can we all just have a moment of silence in honor.......and all that for only $59!  It's a $260 retail value and it's so worth it.  Another great thing about it is that the proceeds go to the Children's Miracle Network.  I really love that aspect.  We have a Son with severe Autism and mild Mental Retardation so any time we can help build funds to go towards research, treatments and the like for kids we like to do it.
Here are the photos I took of the kit:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/10769175@N00/sets/72157625302656117/
I also did a wee bit of shopping at Walmart.  They sell a brand called Hard Candy which is quite good actually.  I reviewed a small set that I bought so I could try out some of their things other than the powder my Sister gave me.  The photos are also included in the link above.  This tiny kit was $8.00 and came with a small baked bronzer, lip gloss, a glow cream that actually has 24 karat gold dust in it, and a face primer.  They are all in trial size that should last, if used every day, about 2 weeks or so.  So far I love the bronzer and glow cream the best.  The gloss is a bit sticky for me and the primer is too "sheer" for my aging skin.  But that doesn't mean it's not a good primer, I just need more assistance in that area than others.  Such is life........I also picked up a black pencil liner from Hard Candy but I'll review that in the next lot with a few lip liners and a Loreal blusher I picked up on clearance at Ulta.
Hopefully this review is helpful to you.  If you're in the market for lots of shadows and some eyeliners to play with and a few choices of blushers and glosses the Smashbox kit is perfect for you.  It would also make a GREAT gift for anyone who enjoys make up at all.  I'm not sure how long the sale will be on so check it out if you're interested as soon as you can.
Have a great weekend to all of you.  Thank you SO very much for stopping by to read my blog, watch my videos and check out my photos.  I will be continuing to attempt to make all of these things better for you and as always if you have any questions or would like to see anything in particular please leave me a comment either here or on YouTube and I'll definitely give it a go.  Good night and God bless you.

Reorganize The Stash

Hello All,
Sorry for the short pause in posts.  I filmed a tutorial last week and because it's too "long" for YouTube's liking it has to be edited.  (PLEASE subscribe to my channel there and my blog here. The more subscribers I have the closer I can get to being able to film longer tutorials.  WOO HOO!)  However...I haven't a clue how to do that.  So....it's still sitting there needing to be edited until my Husband gets time to help me figure it out.  However, I filmed two videos today.  One tutorial and the other has to do with the title of this post.
Up until today I have been storing my make up in two, three compartment, plastic containers frI'm om Target, a Mickey Mouse tote bag and just everywhere in between.  It was a mess at best.  I had it as organized as I could get it under those circumstances.  So last night I saw an ad for a 7 bin storage chest at a nearby wholesale store on sale for $15!  My Husband said "let's go get it" and we did.  We got two of them because, as he so lovingly informed me, my make up wouldn't fit in one.  And he was right.  I spent about three hours today organizing, cleaning, purging etc all that I have for both personal and client use.  If you'd like to see how I organized it and what those bins look like please watch this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2K2LoRSKDk  And here are a couple of pictures of them: http://www.flickr.com/photos/10769175@N00/?saved=1
I'm sure at some point I will outgrow these chests but for now they are serving their purpose well and I really like how they look.  Almost Asian in design and if you know me at all you know that I LOVE ANYTHING ASIAN!  Design, food, clothes, people, language, countries etc.  LOVE.  Here's a link to the store we purchased them at: http://www.olliesbargainoutlet.com/  This store has only been in my city for about 2 months and last night was my first time in there.  They have decent prices, not extremely cheap but definitely less expensive than other places you could get the same items.  And they are always having huge sales.  So I think this may be a store to frequent....we shall see.
Well, thanks for stopping by to read my bloggie.  I hope you all have a great day and that the video can help you organize your "make up mania" at least on a small scale for now.  Love and Make Up,
Nicole

Graftobian in a box

I have recently decided to "take the plunge" and start building a kit for freelance make up artistry.  WOO HOO! I ordered a few things to get started with and yesterday I got my box from Graftobian.  I felt like a little kid on Christmas morning! (a friend of mine told me I acted that way as well).  The company was founded in 1978 by Gene and Evelyn Coffman who wanted to create the finest novelty masquerade make up in the world.  In 1995 their Son and his wife took over the company so his Parents could retire.  He added colored and glittered hair sprays to the make up line and in 1997 their friend, John Mazur, partnered with the company and brought with him his expert formulation skills to manufacture professional theatrical and beauty make up.  They carry high quality products for a fraction of what it costs to purchase high end cosmetics such as Mac, Chanel, Dior etc.  Here's a link to the little video I did when I opened my exciting package yesterday.  WARNING: I am so excited in the video I had a hard time gathering my thoughts so there is a bit of rambling..he he.  Enjoy!  (and PLEASE leave me comments, rate and subscribe to my channel)

Magical Lip Tricks

I've always envied those girls who have lips.  I mean I just really have no lips, never have.  So...I always search for ways to make my lips look a wee bit more like Angelina Jolie.  Ha ha.  Here's the video I filmed today on a few tips and tricks I've learned along the way to help the "lip challenged" such as myself.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SC9s_t4TYZI
Here's a brief recap of the things I go over in the video:
1. Dark colors make things look smaller and light colors highlight things or make them stand out.  To make your lips look larger use lighter, brighter colors.
2. Line your lips with a neutral color that is a bit darker than your natural lip color.  Blend the liner toward the center of the lip but leave the actual center free of lip liner.
3. Using a shade or two lighter than your liner, fill in the lips concentrating on the centers.
4. Use either a lighter shade of lip gloss or a slightly shimmery powder such as an eyeshadow and dab this on the center of the bottom lip and on the top of the cupid's bow.
5. The eyeshadow trick will make your lips more "matte" but will also help seal the lipstick and make it stay on a wee bit longer.
I hope these tips help you achieve the lips of your dreams!  Or at least just give you a bit more confidence in the lip area...enjoy!
PS...PLEASE rate, comment and subscribe to my YouTube channel and my blog.  It would really really make me happy and when I'm happy I smile and my lips disappear but with my magic lip tricks I can still see them!  WOO HOO

The Peace in my Make up part 2

Good day and thanks for stopping in to have a look see.  I have this terrible habit of forgetting to blog.  I'm trying to break it and one day I will be successful!  ;-)
As promised this is part two of my previous blog where I explained how my love for make up artistry started as a child.  This will be more about how that passion grew in the past year.  So sit back, grab your coffee (or drink of choice) and let's take a little stroll down memory lane.  Yes, my memory still serves me well most of the time.  Ahem...I'm not THAT old!  Ha.
Let's just jump right in for the sake of, well, boredom!  Last year around this time my world was turned upside down and on it's hind parts by a turn of events beyond my control.  (that's the rear for those of you wondering)  Because I feel it's un-Godly to dredge up things people have done in their past and that I have forgiven them for I won't go into the gory details.  I will just tell you it was something done by someone very close to my heart and the event, though it was horrifying and felt like the worst thing that could ever happen to me, has changed me and my family's lives for the better forever.
Before this event occurred I had spent many years just "being".  Sort of existing but not really living or pursuing very passionately anything that I loved. I had given up hope that I could ever accomplish anything I felt in my heart to do or that anyone would ever really love me for me.  It was a depression of sorts.  Quite a black and scary one at that.  I still went about my daily life and had "fun" now and then and tried to push it away but the truth was evident, I had allowed myself to be controlled by what other's thought of me, how they treated me and I had put my worth in whether or not I was loved and thought well of by humans.  I'm sure you can guess what I am going to say next.  Yes, you're right, that is a very very bad way to find yourself.  It's a sad and lonely place full of misery and darkness and despair.  Because humans will most always let you down.  They aren't capable of giving you what you need to feel the way you want to feel or of giving you exactly what it is that gives you that "I have a reason to live" feeling.  So when one puts their stock mainly in the thoughts and feelings of others about one's self....it's always a black and terrible smelly place to live.
So, while living in this black smelly place I laid down all passion about pretty much anything at all.  Then we come to the "event" for lack of a better term.  This was the epitome of "hitting rock bottom" for me.  I fell flat on my face and saw nothing but the cold hard ground in front of my nose.  I thought I would die there.  I thought this was the end of my world as I knew it. I was very wrong!  This was actually the very beginning of life turning around and me seeing what was the truth.  I realized what I had been doing, that I had been living based on what others thought of me, and I realized that it was killing me.  My eyes opened and instead of seeing the floor in front of my nose I saw the Lord there looking in my eyes and saying "it's here. it's right here that you find your worth and it's here that you will find the most important place to get love and acceptance and if you'll allow yourself to be controlled by what I think of you and how I feel about you you will never have to live in that dark, scary, smelly place again".  And so...I did.  It's a long road to travel back from that dungeon of self and fear of what men might say/think/feel of me but it's so very very worth it.  I am still on that road.  Sometimes I'm running down it and others I'm crawling on all fours.  There are even times when I am doing the army crawl on my stomach but I'm still going forward toward the Lord and finding that I am worthy of His love because He made me to be worthy of it.  And I am loved and accepted by Him at all times.  There is never even a millisecond that goes by when He doesn't love and accept me just the way I am and is always encouraging me to keep improving for His sake.  No one else's.  Yes, we need each other.  And we need humans in our lives to love and to be loved by but they should never ever dictate our happiness, worthiness, reason for living etc based on their opinions and thoughts of us or what they think we should or shouldn't be.  If you are getting those directions from the Lord, you will always be right where you should be and can be truly happy with that.  Always!!!!!!!!
So it was there on the beginning of that road I started to crawl down last year that I started realizing,  I don't care if anyone else finds me "artsy" or not.  I don't care if anyone else think's I'm "good at make up artistry" or not.  I care that I love it and that the Lord wants me to do what He placed in my heart to love and this is one of those things.  I don't know why...but I know it is.  And so here I go, sometimes running, sometimes crawling, down the road closer and closer to the Lord's heart and further and further away from the fear of what a person (man, woman or child) might think of me or say about me.  WHO CARES I sing as I skip down that road today because today that's where I happen to be...in the place where I can skip freely down that road toward Him who loves me cuz HE JUST DOES
**PS...one of the people involved in last year's "event" also has an amazing story to tell of their eyes being opened and their heart being changed by the Lord in a miraculous way.  Maybe I'll encourage them to tell part of that story on their own blog one day....it's amazing!
